Book of the Week: The Widow by Fiona Barton

Everyone knows that I’m an avid reader.  Book suggestions fly at me from friends, social media, book clubs, local authors, my family, Goodreads, etc.   However, one of my favorite ways to discover new titles is to see what people are reading in the airport and on airplanes.  It used to be much easier when people read “real” books and you could just spy the titles on the backs of books. It’s harder to tell with eReaders unless you feel like interrupting engrossed readers to inquire.  (not me)   I also like to see what the airport bookstores are selling.   So while waiting  for my plane in La Guardia on Sunday I perused the bookstore shelves.   I found several interesting titles but decided to buy The Widow by Fiona Barton.  It’s her first novel and the following Stephen King quote on the cover sealed the deal for me.

“If you liked Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, you might want to pick up The Widow by Fiona Barton. Engrossing. Suspenseful.”-Stephen King

I immediately downloaded it to my Kindle.  (My apologies to the La Guardia bookstore owner.

Let me tell you….it is an excellent psychological thriller from the first sentence to the last.  I read over half the book in flight from La Guardia to Hartsfield then ignored my unpacking duties until I finished that evening!   Ready for a thrilling ride?  Get Fiona Barton’s first book… The Widow!   I’ve already purchased her second and will provide a full report when I’m done!
