WHIMSICAL DUNWOODY ART FESTIVAL SET FOR MAY 10 – 11,  2014:

AWARD-WINNING EVENT ENTERS FIFTH YEAR:

175 ARTISTS WILL BRING COLOR AND FUN TO THE HEART OF DUNWOODY

DUNWOODY, GA – April 17, 2014 – Organizers have announced the dates for the fifth annual Dunwoody Art Festival, which is set once again for Mother’s Day weekend (May 10 and 11, 2014) and takes place in the heart of Dunwoody.

The Dunwoody Art Festival will stretch two city blocks and will showcase an Artist’s Market that will extend for more than a third of a mile.  Also featured are local musical acts in the live entertainment stage and an interactive children’s area in the Bank of North Georgia’s parking lot with lively rides, face painting, sand art and great surprises from Dunwoody’s own, Purple Hippo. The popular Food Court returns with great eats for hungry shoppers who need a quick break before returning to find more unique art treasures.  Dunwoody’s eclectic shopping district, which borders the festival grounds and is filled with restaurants, boutiques and unique stores, will be open to festival-goers throughout the weekend.

Splash Festivals, producers of Dunwoody Art Festival, explain that the invitation-only show is already filled.  One hundred and seventy-five colorful and whimsical artisans have committed to exhibit at the Festival, some of them locking in their calendars before they left last year’s event.  The Dunwoody Crier and the Rotary Club of Dunwoody are partners in this yearly celebration of the arts.

Also part of the festival is the popular “Chairs for Charity” gallery and auction. Students from elementary, middle and high schools in the area are busy designing and decorating chairs and stools that will be auctioned to the highest bidder to benefit the art programs in public schools. Last year’s Chairs for Charity auction raised more than $1,500.

The event takes place on Chamblee Dunwoody Road between Mt. Vernon Road and Dunwoody Village Parkway (Chamblee Dunwoody Road will be closed to thru traffic from 3am Saturday, May 10 through 9pm Sunday May 11). Free parking will be available at a satellite lot located at 200 Ashford Parkway, and regular shuttles will run between the lots and the Festival grounds.
