Community Pool Recommendations

Vermack Pool – Peggy & Audra’s Choice

A new Aha! Subscriber (Kristin C.) inspired me to create a new article for the community regarding pool choices!  Interestingly enough, one of the first Dunwoody centric spreadsheets I ever created was a pool choice spreadsheet back in 2003….TWELVE years ago when my baby was 2!!

We originally joined Wynterhall Swim & Tennis and LOVED it but by the time my boys were in elementary school they wanted to move to Vermack Pool because they have a high dive, it is close enough to bike without crossing Mt. Vernon, and also numerous Vanderlyn buddies are members.  As they have gotten older they love to “pool hop” with their friends who are members at other area pools!  As you can see there are many reasons to choose a pool…a few others to mention would be price…tennis/golf availability….neighborhood etc.

  1. I love the pool info, but I was wondering too if we might include info on free community splash parks that people think are great. I have a 2 year old and not ready to commit to a pool yet but plan to visit some splash parks this summer.

  2. Since I have a toddler, can you mention if the facility has a pool that has a sloped, walk-in entry as opposed to stair or ladder entry? Also, do any offer on-site swimming lessons for kids? One final question…(!) which ones have snack bars or other food options available? Thanks so much!

  3. Audra, I am interested in my daughter joining a swim team. She turns 13 in June. Do you know of any pools/subdivisions that have swim teams?

  4. Yolandria – Kingsley, Dunwoody North, Vermack, Wynterhall, Redfield, Mill Glen, Georgetown, Fountain Bleu and the Dunwoody Country Club all have swim teams.

  5. Georgetown. We chose it because it is our neighborhood pool and a lot of our kids’ friends belong there. http://georgetownrec.com/ For membership, contact membership@georgetownrec.com It is a very friendly, community-oriented pool and one of the best deals in the area. Besides the pool, they have great tennis courts. Georgetown has a really good youth swimteam, adult lap swim program (6 am practices 3x week), teen nights at the pool, tennis teams, tennis lessons, and a few social events throughout the summer.

  6. Kingsley has a special $375 off initiation! Kingsley Racquet & Swim club sits on 7 acres on the beautiful Kingsley lake, has a newly renovated clubhouse, a high dive and a very active social program for adults and children. In addition, they have a zero grade baby pool that is completely shaded. Go to KingsleyClub.org for details

  7. Please add that $1,350 of the $1,600 initiation fee at Mill Glen is 100% refundable upon resignation. Might also be helpful to add which clubs have a playground. Mill Glen has an awesome new playground.

  8. We just moved to Dunwoody and our kids will eventually be going to Vanderlyn. Are any pools in the area that feeds into Vanderlyn or is there a pool where most Vanderlyn kids go? (Now that there is Dunwoody Elementary, I wasn’t sure if Vermack Pool was still where a lot of Vanderlyn kids go.) Thanks!

  9. Bill -Village Mill will have mostly Dunwoody Elementary Kids. Vermack will have some DES kids and some Vanderlyn kids and definitely others. Kingsley has some Kingsley kids and some Vanderlyn kids and probably Chesnut too. In my opinion Vermack will most likely still have the majority of the Vanderlyn kids because the homes in the Vanderlyn district aren’t in neighborhoods with a swim/tennis…except Dunwoody Country Club but that draws kids from all over Dunwoody.

To find Vanderlyn kids I think Vermack and Kingsley would be your top choices for pools.

  10. Village mill has a high dive, baby pool, and swim team. It is a saline pool too 🙂 we love it because of all of the fun activities/parties too!

  11. We love the Jcc pools- I don’t see that on the list? A summer mrmbership is $515, and there are deals like one free week of day camp ( restrictions ). Access from Memorial Day to Labor Day to outdoor pools , kiddie pool ( new share structures), shallow 3 ft area of large pool, splash pad, plus access to tennis , gym , babysitting , indoor pools. You do not need to be Jewish ! Year mbership can also access the Emory SAAC pool for $10 per ID fee
