ABOUT THE ALOHA MENTAL MATH PROGRAM

ALOHA stands for ABACUS Learning of Higher Arithmetic and teaches ‘mental math’ to children between the ages of 5 and 12 by utilizing the Abacus as a framework and teaching tool.  The ALOHA program is more than just math enrichment – it helps children utilize and develop both left and right brain capacity which improves focus, concentration, memory and general problem solving. The program consists of a series of levels that meet once per week for 2 hours with roughly 1 hour of homework per week.  Our students demonstrate dramatic improvement in math skills, logical reasoning, and problem solving.  More information is provided at www.aloha-usa.com.

The use of abacus in the ALOHA Mental arithmetic program helps a child visualize and conceptualize, which is the main work of the right hemisphere of the brain. Starting with the abacus as an initial tool to perform arithmetic calculation, the child gradually moves on to visualize the abacus in his/her mind and perform arithmetic calculation at stunning speed and accuracy. Thus, the right side of the brain is also equally utilized and this results in total brain development and complete coordination of the brain – vision and hearing. The ALOHA Mental Arithmetic program teaches children to calculate complicated math problems  within seconds, and more importantly, without using any calculating device.
