Owl Always Love You – An adult evening of Owls and More

Saturday, February 11

5:00 – 8:00PM

Plan to spend a special evening with Monteen McCord of HawkTalk as she presents a Valentine themed program at the Dunwoody Nature Center featuring a trio of her rehabilitating owls. HawkTalk is one of only about 6 active, licensed raptor rehabilitation facilities in Georgia and Monteen will help guests learn about the love that’s in the air this time of year for her feathered friends as she discusses their mating rituals, breeding and nesting habits and other topics during her presentation. Take a beak to talon tour of this amazing species and even have an opportunity to handle one of the live owls during the demonstration.

As this is an adult program on the Saturday eve of Valentine’s Day, the Dunwoody Nature Center is pleased to announce that they will be having a cocktail hour prior to the program. Wine will be served for adult guests as well as light appetizers beginning at 5:00, with Monteen’s owl program starting at 6:00.

Space for this special evening encounter is limited. Advance registration is required and reservations and payments will be taken on a first served basis in advance by registering online at www.dunwoodynature.org beginning January 9th, 2012. Participants may also phone the Program Office at 770.394.3322 to register. This is an adults only event.  Cost for the event is $20.00 for Members and $25.00 for Non-members.

Morning ‘O Maple Sugaring

The Dunwoody Nature Center is pleased to announce a favorite winter programming event coming on Saturday, January 21st: Morning ‘O Maple Sugaring at Dunwoody Park.  Join the Nature Center from 10:30 until noon for some “sweet” fun during this interactive, educational family program. Visitors will learn how to identify several different types of maple trees in winter, how maple syrup is collected and made, and even participate in a blind taste test to discover the real maple syrup!

While many are aware of the well known Sugar Maple, people are often surprised to learn that there are two varieties that are both are native to Georgia, but only in scattered locations, mostly in the higher mountain elevations. While both of these species are intolerant of high summer temperatures and their growth and survival in those conditions is unpredictable, there is also a Southern Sugar Maple that is also native to Georgia and most of the southeast.

Come and learn more about the Southern Sugar Maple and take the taste test challenge at this unique event at the Dunwoody Nature Center. Advance registration is required and reservations and payments will be taken on a first served basis in advance by registering online at www.dunwoodynature.org beginning January 9th, 2012. Participants may also phone the Program Office at 770.394.3322 to register. Children are encouraged to attend this program, but must be accompanied by an adult. Cost for the event is $4.00 for Members and $6.00 for Non-members.
