To tell you a little bit about me, I’ve been a Spanish student since seventh grade and went up to the AP level in high school. I went to two Foreign Language Association of Georgia “competitions” in middle school and high school and received Superior ratings both years. I attended the Governor’s Honors Program for Spanish the summer before my junior year of high school, and went to Spain the following spring break with my AP Spanish class! I am currently a Spanish minor here at UGA and just started the Read More »

Experienced Math Tutoring for High School and College Students

aw-picMy name is Al Wolmer and I offer highly effective math tutoring for subjects from Algebra 1 through Calculus, especially AP Calculus, as well as the math portion of the SAT. I developed and taught the SAT Math Prep course at my high school for seven years, so I am very effective in getting students ready for that as well. Not only have I taught for over twenty years at the high school and college level, I am also an AP Calculus Reader for the College Board, which means I score the free response questions of the AP Calculus exam every year. In addition, I write multiple choice questions for the exam. So, I know exactly what’s expected of students on the exam. In addition, I am a Consultant for the National Math & Science Initiative, through which I hold AP Calculus Read More »

Does Your Student Need Help Unpacking the College Essay?

suitcases-right-side-upWho doesn’t? The writing itself can be daunting! Today, the 650 word Common Application essay can often make or break a college applicant’s acceptance to their school of choice. Often, students have difficulty knowing how to distinguish themselves and write in a unique “voice” so that their essay topic, as well as their writing, stands out. I work with students on lengthy essays as well as supplementary essays required for many private schools.

I offer individualized and/or small group writing coaching to assist with the following:

*Brainstorming life’s “Gold Mines”
*Reflecting on memories for topic ideas
*Setting oneself apart from the others
*Sticking to the prompt and word count
*Utilizing appropriate vocabulary
*Researching before writing
*Organizing and structuring the essay
*Paying attention to style and audience
*Writing mechanically sound work
*Proofreading like an editor

Please call me at your convenience to discuss your child’s needs. I offer flexibility in scheduling and meeting location depending upon your specific situation.
