3 Movie Reviews from Audra (Yesterday • Racing in the Rain • Bernadette)

by Audra H. Anders for The Aha! Connection

I’ve been going to the movies a whole lot more than reading lately so I thought I’d share three movies that I personally believe you shouldn’t miss!

One:  Yesterday (still in a few Atlanta theaters)

My husband and I have talked about this movie so many times since seeing it.  We loved it!  Basically there’s some sort of weird power outage blip across the whole world and erases everyone’s memory of The Beetles.   Only struggling musician Jack Malik remembers and he takes full advantage of their songbook!   We liked it because it is a unique story-line and full of good messages.

Two:  The Art of Racing in the Rain (currently in theaters everywhere)

I started crying about 10 minutes into this movie and never stopped.  At some point I realized my husband was also sniffling.   A few minutes later he’s messing with his phone and I’m getting frustrated with him until he says:  “I’m canceling our dinner reservations on Open Table so we can go home and have dinner with George (our dog) instead”  If you love dogs you’ve got to see this movie.   I keep calling George “my little Enzo”.   The movie is about Enzo (a golden retriever who’s thoughts are narrated by Kevin Costner) and the bond with his owner, aspiring Formula One race car driver Denny (Milo Vintimiglia).   Enzo learns that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to successfully navigate the journey of life. Warning…you will need tissue.

Three:  Where’d You Go Bernadette (in theaters starting tomorrow)

I went to the screening at Sandy Springs Cinema and Tap Tuesday night and saw several Aha! Subscribers/friends there.   The theater was packed.   I read the book many years ago and remember it being quirky and interesting.  Well, the movie is also very quirky and interesting.   Cate Blanchett is spot on in her portrayal of Bernadette!  It’s so hard to describe what this movie is about so here’s what Amazon says about the book:  A misanthropic matriarch leaves her eccentric family in crisis when she mysteriously disappears in this whip-smart and “divinely funny” novel that inspired the movie starring Cate Blanchett.   Perfect movie for a girls night out!

Have you seen any good movies lately?   Agree or disagree with my assessment of these three flicks?  Feel free to add a comment!
