Is it appropriate to wear white jeans after Labor Day?

55.6% – YES
18.6% – Who Cares?!
14.3% – NO
11.3%- Provided a comment with their own answer!

Original Article:  Excerpt from an article I read on a blog called “Broken Secrets” about the history of this fashion rule:

Historically, the rule only applied to white dress shoes and high heels. In the 50s and 60s, the middle class extrapolated this rule to include other clothing.

Some believe it was practical advise, since white clothing would be tough to keep clean in the winter. Others say that white clothing was typical dress for members of high society during summer holidays and was too casual for getting back to serious business when summer had finished. In the 1950s, the middle class was growing and they were given simplified rules of high society to help them fit in, including the rule about white after labor day.

  1. white jeans-no. winter-white wool-type fabric pants-yes
If it’s hot, white is ok anytime in fall or spring. If it’s cold, no way!
    Too Southern to comment.
Winter white, in cooler months, paired with darker
tops & jackets, instead of brighter colors.
Who Cares? As long as you don’t look like you just stepped off a cruise ship! White jeans with a cozy neutral sweater can be very chic, or cute!
    Huge fashion faux pas!!!!!!
looks careless and tacky. so many nice colors out there.
YESSS! If you feel pretty, and look great in your white jeans, then wear them, mamma!! Everyone likes to see a happy person who feels good inside, so wear them if ya got ’em. =)
I think it’s find when it’s still 85 degrees outside.
Of course! It’s still 85 degrees!
In my opinion, with my hips, it’s never appropriate to wear white jeans! 🙂
Yes, I think whitr jeans anytime.. Don’t understand why we have to have clothes rules,
It stays hot as hell here and we sure don’t drag out the wool sweaters. The talk shows all show people wearing white all the time.
    We live in the South!!
Hope so – wore my white pants to Boston last weekend!!
    Yes, of course!
As long as they are more “winter white” and worn with a season appropriate shirt and shoes. No white jeans with a tank and flip flops!
White jeans have become sort of a uniform for those of us living in very hot climates. If it is still 90 degrees out, who cares!
No white after Labor Day. Although, I think if you live somewhere that has warm weather year round, such as Florida, it would be okay.
    Anything goes
Only if accessorized properly for the season or in the right destination (totally ok in the Caribbean!)
If that is all you have to worry about in life then perhaps you need to get a life!
Absolutely! It’s hot in the sunny south. We get to wear white as long as we want…I have decided to rebel against those old policies!!!
YES! White is a color, just like any other. Do we wear black in summer – of course. Fashion and style is about breaking out of old patterns (no pun intended) and being you!
White jeans are fine year round – it’s the white linen and the lighter fabrics you want to avoid after Labor Day.
With temps in the 80’s much of October, most summer outfits are appropriate! Although, I do agree as well with the “who cares” answer!!!
Absolutely not! So sick of women breaking this “rule!” Some consider this fashion rule outdated…. but c’mon… put them away until Easter! Same for white shoes and bags.
Weather dictates. We will know when it’s too late. If it’s still 90 degrees, like it is sometimes but not this year, people tend to hold off on fall clothes. I say, follow your instincts.
It would be great to wear white with confidence anytime. Let’s break this dopey “no white” rule.If enough of us do it, it will go away.
What would my mother say?? She would blush with embarrassment that I would make such a faux paus!! Actually, of course, it does not matter but I simply can’t bring myself to do it! I think no less of someone who does, however….Su Ellis
Did it last week and had tons of compliments!
I do not know that is why I want the “general opinion”
Depends if the whether continues to be hot!!
    wear what you LOVE!
as long as the days are warm and sunny
I never wear white jeans, no matter the time of year, though I think they look good on some other people.
I would say yes with qualifications – as our weather has stayed warmer these days, white is ok. Years ago, weather changed, white not ok.
I think it’s ok to wear white as long as we have summer weather – which, in Atlanta, is much later than Labor Day.
All rules of “proper” dress seem to have gone out the window, so if wearing white jeans was a no-no once, it likely isn’t anymore.
Who cares … Look great year round
Yes. Who cares. You should wear what looks good and makes you feel good,it does not matter if it is before or after Labor Day.
it depends on how great you look in the jeans….some should NEVER wear white jeans
Neither can you were white shoes.

However, winter white is different, but it’s not a summer white.
Of course it is! Just swap out the sandals for buff or tan booties and you’re set for “winter white”!
When it is 80-90 degrees outside, my summer wardrobe is still in play!
    Where the weather is warm
Yes, especially in the south. After October 1 – no unless you live in Florida
Yes!! I love white jeans all year. To me they are a step above blue jeans but still jeans. The issue should not be about the jeans, but about what to wear with them…

I wear white jeans after Labor Day but not shoes or other white pants.
It depends from which era you are born!!!!
I would like to in the South and wanted to last week, but my old southern roots whispered in my ear and said NO. I could hear my grand mother saying NO, but why not? It is still nice in the south after Labor Day. I am not saying white patton leather shoes are a Yes, but why not white jeans (not white slacks).

Yes, according to all the latest fashion mags, it is not only fine but considered fashionable to wear white jeans after labor day…especially here in the south.
Yes, until the weather turns cool/cold. After Halloween, I say no. Also, it depends on where you live. Northern states should stop when the weather turns cooler.
If it is still hot and summerish – Yes!
Yes, especially when it’s still 90 degrees outside and technically still summer!
YOU BET !! WE ARE IN THE SOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As long as you don’t wear white shoes, I’m o.k. with it! A nice black top and black high heels can make a white jean look hot, even in the fall and winter!
White shoes NO, white jeans YES!
It’s the south and still hot!
They look great with casual sweaters and boots – even driving loafers.
I hope so – I’m wearing them right now!
    absolutely!!
    Yes! In the south !
Only in the south if the weather is still warm. Once it turns cool, no. After mid-september, not acceptable any longer.
In Atlanta the season should be May 1-Sept 30.
    It’s called winter white!!
U don’t think there is anything wrong with it, but I probably wouldn’t.
As long as you don’t wear white shoes (EVER)!
