Audra’s Fitness Blog – Entry #6

Since my last entry at the end of March, Beth and I decided we weren’t ready to give up our private lessons with Jose just yet!  However, we’ve joined the gym (UFC Gym- Perimeter) and have tried a few classes in addition to our private twice per week sessions with Jose (Who happens to be the employee of the month at UFC this month!)

Between the two of us we’ve tried lunch crunch weekday classes, Friday evening classes and a few Saturday classes.  We are learning what we like and don’t like about classes and how to choose our ideal class.  Both of us are so proud that we can actually make it through a class without DYING!

My boys surprised me on Mother’s day with a 5 AM wake-up call and instructions to “Put on workout clothes and be ready in 10 minutes!”  Six months ago this would have scared me to death, however when we arrived at our surprise destination to hike to the top of Stone Mountain to see the sun rise, I was so excited and happy to be with my boys and not scared of the challenge in the least!   Although my oldest (17) could have run up and down the mountain at least twice before I got to the top, my youngest (14) was happy to stay at my slower pace!   Both boys were proud that I never complained and my muscles never hurt and weren’t sore later!

However, I must admit that my heart was RACING by the time we got to the top.  So, I decided it was time to try a Fitbit to help me monitor my pulse.  Jose has included some “Fitbit” training for Beth and me lately and we are learning about our ideal heart rates and zones.   I’m getting hooked on the BUZZ that my Fitbit gives me when I’ve reached 10,000 steps!

I’m still working hard to lose a little more weight so guess I’m going to have to get more diligent about logging in and using “My Fitness Pal” to record my meals and activity.  Beth logs in every day so I’ve got to get better to keep up with her!

My summer goals are to:

  • continue working towards my goal weight
  • get my boys in the gym with me
  • walk a few miles on days when I don’t go to the gym  (I’m learning this is a great way to catch up on my favorite Podcasts and Audible Books!)

Feel free to leave a comment on this post or email me any questions about my fitness journey.  I’m certainly no expert but am happy to talk to you about my experience from moving to a sit at my desk all day kinda girl to one that is trying to stay up and moving more and more and more!
