Audra’s Fitness Blog: I’m OBSESSED with my Fitbit

Entry #7

fitbit obsessedBeth texted me one day last week to congratulate me for “walking .3 miles with my dog”.  OMG…I had no idea that  some of  My Fitness Pal entries alerted her to my activity!   So I started paying attention to my messages and the logs and learned that she was logging her food and exercise every day.  Since then I’ve realized that losing weight is actually one giant math problem.  When outgoing calories > incoming calories you lose weight!   I’ve never really loved math but I do really dig spreadsheets and bar charts.  I moved all of my fitness logging over to Fitbit from My Fitness Pal so I could track everything in one place and I’m now obsessed.

For example –  I went one of the swankiest Buckhead weddings I’ve ever attended on Saturday.  When I was getting dressed I chose a long sleeve dress so I could hide my Fitbit (seriously, I did).  We walked in to the reception and each server had trays of red and white wine to choose from and I couldn’t get to my phone quick enough to log my glass of wine.  Then I quickly decided that if I wanted to drink alcohol that I needed to switch to a healthier choice of vodka/soda instead of high calorie wine.     Later – my hubby and I are shaking our booties to the Rupert’s Orchestra on the dance floor and he is making so much fun of me for constantly checking my “steps” on my wrist.  However I am THRILLED that dancing burns so many calories that I can have dessert!

I LOVE looking at the Fitbit bar chart at the end of every day.  It shows a bar with my outgoing calories next to a bar of my incoming calories right in front of it. fit chart

Interestingly enough, I’ve lost two more pounds in just one week since tracking my incoming calories and becoming more aware of everything I put in my mouth. I’ve also noticed that fixing breakfast, packing lunches, waking up teenagers, doing a load or two of laundry, cleaning up the kitchen and pushing drowsy teenagers out the door for school takes me about an hour and a half.  According to  Fitbit, my daily morning routine is equivalent to walking 1.5 miles!  Pretty darn impressive that I’ve done all those mommy chores and walked 1.5 miles by 8 AM every day!  No wonder I’m tired when I sit at my desk to start working at 8:15!

Okay…now I need to go walk George so I can burn enough calories to each lunch…or maybe I’ll WALK to Dunwoody High School to vote today….or maybe I’ll do both!

p.s.  Thank you to Eric at UFC Gym Perimeter for putting this Fitbit on my wrist.  You are so SMART!
