Books of the Week: 101 Great Books Recommended for College-Bound Readers

My 11th grader’s ACT Tutor (Brad Daniell) recommended that my son choose a book from this list of 101 Great Books Recommended for College-Bound Readers.   They plan to read it together and discuss….much like a book club for just the two of them.   The goal:   increase his ACT reading category score.

Everyone who knows me, understands that I’m a book lover.   This particular recommended book list simultaneously excited me and freaked me out.  I get excited about seeing the list realizing I’ve read several.  I had a blast choosing the ones I want to read most….but was freaked out that I’ll never have enough time to read them all.   I want to do just that….read them all.

My son is 100% behind the idea although he doesn’t have a lot free reading time.  His choice:  Animal Farm by George Orwell.  Lucky for me, I own it already.

My top choice:  A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. I can’t believe I’ve never read it before and it seems like a good time to enjoy a classic!

If you have a student that needs to boost their ACT reading score, feel free to share this list with them!
