Buttermilk Kitchen’s “Secret” Fancy Fried Chicken Dinner

By Audra Anders for The Aha! Connection

You’ve quite possibly eaten breakfast at Buttermilk Kitchen in Buckhead.   If not, you need to go…and soon….but get there early and expect to wait a little while for a table.  It is worth the wait…just ask my always hungry teenage boys.

Buttermilk’s Chef, Suzanne Vizethann, is  a local girl who actually graduated from Riverwood High School.  She’s come a long way since Riverwood and is now a Chopped Champion, her restaurant has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and stars like Tom Hanks dine at Buttermilk whenever they are in town.

A mutual friend, Laura Schilling, recently introduced me to Suzanne via email when telling me about their Fancy Fried Chicken Dinner.   I thought to myself…DINNER?   Buttermilk is only open for breakfast and lunch!  Well….actually Suzanne told me that she (and her staff) like the hours of a breakfast/lunch restaurant but she also loves the idea of creating a  themed dinner once per month.  She got the idea from Southport Grocery and Cafe, a restaurant in Chicago that does a “secret supper“.   Suzanne felt like fried chicken would always bring people in and she was right.   She told me she’s never advertised Buttermilk’s version of the secret supper but it sells out every month!

I was thrilled when Suzanne invited my husband and me to the June Fancy Fried Chicken Dinner.  The theme was “A Taste of Summer” and our confirmation hinted at what we were expected to wear… “we encourage our guests to dress to the theme so think “summery” attire i.e. summer dress, khaki shorts, short-sleeve button ups, etc.”   I personally loved these directions!

Let me just say that my Mama’s fried chicken is my favorite food in the world.   She even learned how to perfect a gluten free version for me once I developed a gluten allergy.   I thought that only Mama really cared about my dumb food allergy…. but I was wrong.  The staff at Buttermilk made a few slight changes for me and my meal was AMAZING.

Of course the fried chicken was the star of the show but Kirk and I kept going on an on and on about the phenomenal German potatoes with Benton’s Bacon and balsamic.  The caramel sauce in the griddled pound cake peach cobbler was to die for.    We cleaned our plates for every single course.   To top it all off…the service was impeccable.

So here’s the scoop:  Buttermilk Kitchen hosts this dinner only once per month and the tickets for the following month go on sale the day after the current month’s dinner.   The July dinner ticket order form went live today.   July’s dinner will be an Animal House Toga Party | 7/19/18 @ 7PM.  Click here to buy tickets and reserve your spot!!  I can’t go in July but I’ve already marked my calendar to purchase tickets for August on 7/20!

I must add….Foodie Patty would have loved this secret supper idea!
