Caring for your hydrangeas in the fall

As we move into fall, the blooming season is ending. Here are a few tips for caring for your hydrangeas in August.

  1. If your hydrangeas are still blooming, be sure to deadhead them as the flowers fade.
  2. For lovely dried flowers, cut some stems just before the flowers begin to fade and turn brown. You can hang them in a dry, dark location until dried to preserve the color.
  3. Once your plants have stopped blooming, prune them into shape. Be sure to cut just above any buds to ensure those beautiful clusters of flowers bloom next season.
