City of Dunwoody to hold open house for Phase 2 of the Ashford Dunwoody Commuter Trail

The public is invited to view preliminary plans, ask questions and provide feedback on this important project on January 23 at Dunwoody City Hall.

Dunwoody, GA – January 7, 2020 – The City of Dunwoody will hold a public information open house for Phase 2 of the Ashford Dunwoody Commuter Trail from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 23 at Dunwoody City Hall, 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road. This is a joint project with the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs) and is an extension of Phase 1 of the trail.

“All are invited to this open house. We want to give people a chance to view preliminary plans, ask questions and share feedback,” said Dunwoody Public Works Director Michael Smith. “The proposed improvements on Ashford Dunwoody Road are critical to expanding access to transit and making Dunwoody more walkable.”

Phase 2 is in the early stages of design with construction targeted for 2022. The project will extend approximately 1.2 miles along Ashford Dunwoody Road from Perimeter Center West to Mt. Vernon Road and is proposed to include a cycle track and wider sidewalks. Phase 1 is scheduled to break ground in 2020 and run from Hammond Drive to Perimeter Center West.

“The trail is part of a planned network of pathways that will provide bicycle and pedestrian access for residences, offices, and retail centers along this densely-populated corridor,” said PCIDs Executive Director Ann Hanlon. “We look forward to breaking ground this year on Phase 1 in front of Perimeter Mall.”

The City of Dunwoody will share the cost with the PCIDs. The total construction budget for Phase 1 is $1 million. City funding for both phases will come from the city’s hotel-motel tax.

The open house will be informal, and the public is invited to attend anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. There will be no formal presentation. Written comments will be accepted concerning this project until February 7, 2020 and may be submitted to Ishri Sankar, Capital Projects Manager: ishri.sankar@dunwoodyga.gov. Comments can also be delivered to 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody, Georgia 30338.
