Dunwoody shares concept plans for two parks

Residents are invited to picture the design and location of park amenities at the former Austin school site on October 2.

Dunwoody, GA – September 30, 2021 – Dunwoody’s Parks and Recreation team will hold a Parks Pop-up at the former Austin school site, located at 5435 Roberts Drive, on Saturday, October 2, to share results of a recent public input survey. Residents are invited to pop in anytime between 9:30 a.m. and noon to review two concept plans for the park based on input from more than 1,400 responses. They’ll also be able to walk the property, where desired amenities will be marked off to show size and possible locations.

“This open-air open house is a great opportunity to picture the future park and provide additional input,” said Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Director Brent Walker. “You’ll be able to take what’s on paper and see how it all fits in the space.”

Using survey results, social media comments and interviews with Dunwoody City Council and staff, consultants working with Dunwoody staff determined the most requested amenities for the Austin site are sports fields, a splash pad, basketball courts, passive trails and picnic areas. The two concepts presented Saturday will be refined using additional input from residents to create a draft concept that will be considered by the public and Council at a future meeting.

“We’re excited about where we are in the process, putting what people want on paper and seeing how those ideas take shape on the ground,” Walker added. “We really want everyone to stay engaged through these next steps to build on the great park amenities they already enjoy.”

Saturday’s Pop-Up will focus on the Austin site, but residents will also be able to review two concept plans for the recently-purchased property on Vermack Road. These plans are also based on the public input survey, social media and interviews.
