Easy Way to Help Hurricane Michael Victims

Note from Audra:  My friends Doug and Sherry Allen are collecting items to take to a school in Panama City.   Following is an excerpt from Doug’s Facebook page that he asked me to share:

Many of you have friends or family members who were impacted by Hurricane Michael. So many stories, so much loss and devastation. There’s not much about it on the news cycle any longer but people are in desperate need. Perhaps you’ve wanted to help but don’t know what to do. Sherry and I have a friend in Panama City who is a teacher at Palm Bay Elementary, K-5. This is a Title 1 school which means a large percentage of the students are from very low income families. Our teacher friend told us that many of these families have lost everything. The school is not even open currently due to extensive damage but it’s slated to reopen on November 11th. Here’s how you can help: These students need the following school supplies :

  • Back packs
  • Pencils
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Paper
  • Spiral notebooks
  • 3 ring binders
  • Crayons
  • Colored pencils
  • Pens (black & blue)
  • Glue
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • High lighters
  • Wipes for cleaning
  • White Board Markers and erasers
  • Books for ages 5-11
  • And probably any other school supplies you can think of

Many of these students need clothes as well. We are collecting items until November 4th. I’ll be delivering whatever we collect to our friend in Panama City. If you feel led to give please send me an email to Doug.Allen@dunwoodyumc.org. God Bless!
