Inaugural Speedway Spin to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
Cycling event to be held on NASCAR track at Atlanta Motor Speedway
ATLANTA – May 2019 – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will host their first-ever Speedway Spin on the grounds of Atlanta’s NASCAR track, Atlanta Motor Speedway, on Saturday, June 15. Every day cyclists will have the ability to ride on the Atlanta Motor Speedway track while raising money for kids who need life-saving care at Children’s.
A NASCAR pace car will take all the cyclists out on the first lap to begin the ride. Cyclists of all abilities can participate in the inaugural fundraising ride and celebration, which will allow exclusive access to Atlanta Motor Speedway with a festival atmosphere and friendly competition. The first 96 teams or individuals to raise a total of $1,000 will each have their own garage bay for their bicycles that NASCAR drivers use for their race cars.
WHEN: Saturday, June 15
WHERE: Atlanta Motor Speedway
WHY: All proceeds will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to help care for patients like Liam Fallas, who spent several scary weeks battling a life threatening C. Difficile infection. Thanks to the diligent care provided at Children’s, Liam is back to being a healthy eight-year-old playing soccer and building Legos.
Liam will be the honored patient at the inaugural Speedway Spin as he cheers on his dad, who plans to ride in the race. Liam and the Fallas family are available for interviews to help raise awareness of the life-saving impact of Children’s and the Speedway Spin event.
THE RIDE: Teams of four or individuals will ride a Metric Century, about 62 miles, on one of the oldest racing tracks currently on the NASCAR schedule. The ride will feature loops riding around the 1.5 mile oval NASCAR track along with a route that circles the immediate outside of the race track on the grounds of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Should riders choose to participate as a team, each rider will complete 15.5 miles of the Metric Century.
REGISTER: Each rider pays a registration fee and is also encouraged to fundraise for Children’s. The first 96 teams or individuals to raise a total of $1,000 will each have their own garage bay for their bicycles that the NASCAR drivers use for their race cars. Register at www.choa.org/speedwayspin.
