Hammocks Trading Co.~ Foodie Frenzy-Week #15

main-resize1Hopefully everyone saw Audra’s previous post that I made the “difficult” decision to give up Buford Highway restaurants for Lent. The BH dives have become that favorite blankie for me that I just can’t seem to put away. Lent is the perfect time to start the weaning process and jump into a new theme. Until April 5, we will be in hot pursuit of good restaurants with a seafood/fish focus.

After several recommendations, our first outing was to Hammock’s Trading Co. on Roswell Road. Their convenient location and Best in Atlanta Grouper Sandwich vote made it an easy choice. Audra and I were blown away by the many enticing choices on the menu. Under the auspices of “having to try it for the review”, we went overboard on ordering.

Here’s the roster: Ceviche (8.50), Beer Battered Gulf Shrimp with remoulade ($14), Grouper sandwich ($12.50), Crawfish Etouffee (about $15), Mac n Cheese.

Because I am a turn-to-the-last page of the book type of girl, I will divulge now that it was a very disappointing lunch. Other than the Ceviche and Mac n Cheese, we were completely underwhelmed by the rest of the spread. The grouper sandwich was particularly lack-luster. It seemed to be chopped up and was sparse at best. The shrimp was so heavily battered, that even Forest Gump wouldn’t be able to appreciate the flavor. Lastly, the crawfish etouffee lacked the zip of the dish I so fondly fell in love with at Jazz fest in New Orleans.

I am truly bummed to give a sad report on Hammock’s because we had such high hopes! Since it is a cute neighborhood restaurant with good-looking drinks, I’ll probably even try it again in case they were just having a bad day. There is a mulligan for restaurants too!

The Foodie Frenzy forges on to greener pastures!

Until we eat again!

Salud!

Note from Audra:  I definitely think they were just having a bad day.  My hubby dined there with clients this week and had a great experience and liked everything but the over-battered shrimp.    Here’s my original review from April 2013.
