Lunch with Lauren: Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse

by Lauren Townsend for The Aha! Connection

I’ll cut right to the meat of it, Del Frisco’s was one of the best meals I’ve had recently, like lick the plate good. The restaurant is located in the new State Farm building on the Perimeter Mall side of Dunwoody, which I typically avoid during the week because of the traffic but for an 11:30 lunch date the commute was a breeze. We met for lunch and right off, parking was super easy, which has nothing to do with the meal, but is always a relief. Once you enter Del Frisco’s, the surroundings are immediately transformed to a rich, modern steakhouse with stylish design and expensive textures. Large leather banquettes line the walls and an impressive wine collection towers through the first and second floors.

The lunch crowd looks pretty corporate, but with their excellent lunch offerings, it’s definitely a great mid-day calorie splurge for anyone. Peggy and I started by splitting (whenever you split anything with me, it’s usually 70-30, me) the charred octopus with gigante beans, tomatoes, capers and olives. This was an ample portion for sharing and it was perfect. Texture and char were perfect and the tomatoes and arugula added the right amount of acidity.

Del Frisco’s has an excellent lunch menu with steaks and family-style sides, but also entree salads and elevated sandwiches, including a lobster roll that looked like heaven when delivered to the table next to us. They also offer a lunch option of soup or salad and choice of filet medallions, pan-seared salmon or chicken piccata for $26.50. There are times when Peggy, Audra and I dine together and all want the same things, so I was excited when we all ordered something different, so I could eat more.

The lobster bisque was creamy but light and had an acceptable amount of poached lobster and Peggy had no complaints about her mixed green salad. Audra ordered a filet mignon and a side of creamed corn with blistered shishito peppers. I’m not sure if she intended to share with Peggy and me, but luckily, our server didn’t give her the option because it was delicious. Audra admitted that she would have licked the spoon. Peggy had pan-seared salmon with crab hash and lobster tomato jus. Also DELICIOUS. I was allowed one bite of crab hash because Peggy knows that I probably wouldn’t have stopped. My filet medallions were 1. Perfectly tempted and 2. Like butter. They were served with château mashed potatoes, haricots verts and a red wine demi-glace. I don’t think I’ve see the three of us clean plates like we did at this meal. We passed on dessert, even though the butter cake was calling my name, my stomach could not take anymore. The service and staff were attentive and knowledgeable.

Other things you need to know about Del Frisco’s: They will have some amazing-sounding brunch entrees available for Easter brunch this Sunday. There is a great bar menu with offerings like a dry aged burger or corn batter lobster tails, so happy hour looks a lot better than 5 o’clock traffic. Del Frisco’s also offers a prime paired prix fixe menu on the weekend that it perfect for a date night, so book your sitter now. If you need a private dining or meeting space, they have some beautiful options throughout the space. The outdoor dining space is so inviting and will add occasional live music. I would definitely add Del Frisco’s to your must try list.

  1. Pricey, but the Dunwoody location has definitely kept up the national reputation of this fine restaurant in every way!
