Lunch with Lauren: El Elote

by Lauren Townsend for The Aha! Connection

While you’re in Sandy Springs, say between 6 PM – 9 PM on Thursdays and Sundays or 6 PM – 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, you need to check out El Elote. They sell some of the best elote in Atlanta from a tent in the parking lot outside of the hatchet throwing place. That whole sentence may raise some red flags for you, but let me convince you.  ELOTE corn is Mexican street corn that has been roasted and coated with salt, chile powder, butter, cotija, lime juice, & mayonnaise or crema. El Elote has different combinations of seasonings that accommodate all palates and then you can cover it in red sauce. So, protip: the elotes don’t really come with a “to-go container.” You have to be prepared to 1. Eat your giant ear of corn on a stick in the parking lot. 2. Drive and eat your giant ear of corn while ignoring looks of jealousy from other drivers. 3. Opt for esquites, which is the salad version, or the off the cob version (more driver friendly). They also pop up at breweries and other places that don’t already serve food, so follow them on Facebook or Instagram.
