Lunch with Lauren: Gus’s Fried Chicken

by Lauren Townsend for The Aha! Connection

Do you like fried chicken? Of course you do. My oldest daughter and I love Gus’s Fried Chicken in Sandy Springs. (There’s one in Chamblee, but I haven’t been to that one). The first thing you should know about Gus’s is that the chicken has a little bit of a kick, and that’s not for everyone. I LOVE spicy, so Gus’s and I are a good fit. The second thing you need to know about Gus’s is that they have fried okra. If you are good with both those things, then we could probably be friends. The fried green tomatoes are also delicious, so we could maybe sub those. Like any good fried chicken place, you can order yourself a plate with sides or pick by the piece. I ordered a 3 piece meal because I needed to try the sides, for science, you’re welcome. In order of deliciousness, the sides offered are: fried okra, mac and cheese, greens, fries (kind of spicy too), cole slaw, baked beans, and potato salad, which I can’t vouch for. I’m only one person. I can’t eat it all. They also have a kids meal with fries or mac and cheese and 2 tenders, wings or legs. FYI it is A LOT of food for small people but they have to-go boxes. The restaurant itself is easy to miss in a nondescript shopping center on Roswell road near Abernathy. It’s open and clean and everything is made fresh and you get a plastic Gus’s cup to add to your plastic cup collection.
