Mount Vernon Road paving in Dunwoody is now underway and is expected to wrap up April 15.

Work is occurring in the evenings when traffic is minimal, Sunday through Friday, from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.

The road began being paved at Mount Vernon Road and Ashford-Dunwoody Road and will continue east through April 15 weather permitting, according to city officials.

Ongoing construction work on Mount Vernon Road has been a point of contention for residents for some time. DeKalb County last year embarked on replacing two aging water mains along Mount Vernon Road between Ashford-Dunwoody Road and Vernon Oaks Drive with one new 16-inch diameter main.

The water mains have now been installed and sidewalk construction is complete, making way to pave the sections of Mount Vernon Road from Ashford-Dunwoody Road moving east to Vernon Oaks Drive.

Following the recent completion of the water main pipe replacement and sidewalk construction along Mount Vernon Road, work crews will begin paving the section of Mount Vernon Road from Ashford Dunwoody Road moving east to Vernon Oaks Drive. Paving will begin at Mount Vernon Road and Ashford Dunwoody Road on Sunday, April 3rd and paving work will continue east until approximately April 15th.

“The city does not anticipate the need for any two-way full-time lane closures during this stage of construction, however drivers can expect temporary delays and the potential for periodic closure of one lane as flag crews help direct traffic around ongoing work,” according to a city press release. “Traffic flows in the area will be monitored to properly address potentially disruptive delays during this time period. As with many construction projects, work is ultimately dependent upon the weather.”
