National Peace Officers Memorial Day

Today is National Peace Officers Memorial Day. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Today we remember all of officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation.

In 2018, we have lost 53 officers and 9 canines in the line of duty. Georgia has lost one officer from Locust Grove Police Department.

You may notice the flag outside of our police department at half-staff today. The president has directed government officials to display the United States flag at half staff on all government buildings for National Peace Officers Memorial Day. #PeaceOfficersMemorialDay
