Patty’s Foodie Frenzy: Newk’s Eatery now in DUNWOODY!

An awesome new restaurant coming to Dunwoody is definitely an event to celebrate.   For that reason, Audra and I could not turn down an invitation from Newk’s Eatery franchisee owners Jay and Randi Medley to come check out their new location. Their other store is in Brookhaven so many of you have probably tried Newk’s already. Not only are the owners gracious and adorable, they are Dunwoody residents and are neighbors of Audra.

We arrived for lunch on opening day and there were plenty of other people who knew that they were open for business! We invited my mom, Phyllis, to join us because we knew that she would enjoy one of their “srimp” dishes (Which is how she pronounces shrimp that we endlessly tease her about. She a great sport!)

Newk’s Eatery prides themselves on sourcing the finest ingredients that are prepared daily even down to the homemade salad dressing. The freshness was obvious in the dishes we tried.

Audra ordered the Shrimp Remoulade salad (10.99) that had a dozen shrimp, mixed greens, diced hard-boiled eggs, grape tomatoes and made from scratch remoulade dressing.

She loved the salad and the big funky bowl that it was served in. I like the shape of the bowl because the people sitting across from you can’t see how much you are chowing down. I would have liked to have had Newk’s around when my husband and I started dating so that I could have hidden my hearty appetite from him. That way you wouldn’t have to order the side salad and then have your stomach growling for the rest of the night.

Mom and I ordered the Shrimp and Avocado salad (11.99) to split with broiled shrimp, sliced avocado, arugula feta, and tomatoes with lemon basil vinaigrette. We both loved this. Portion sizes are very generous.

We also split the Grilled Steak Sandwich with tenderloin steak, caramelized onions, provolone cheese and zesty horseradish sauce (8.79). The steak was good but because I don’t like any non-dessert food that is sweet at all, the caramelized onions were a bit too much sweet for me. Mom really enjoyed it though. Although I don’t care for sweet non-dessert food, I can put a hurtin’ on some cakes and pies especially the caramel cake I ordered that was divine.  Randi told us that the cakes are baked fresh in Oxford, Mississippi.  Apparently some sweet little ladies in Oxford created the BEST cakes, so the Newcomb family bought their bakery and now bakes up their recipes for all the Newk’s locations!

They have a diverse menu with lots of options of Toasted Sandwiches, Artisan Pizzas, Fresh tossed salads and Mac & Cheese and Soups. They use Newcomb family recipes for many of their dishes too. The kids menu would be pleasing to most little ones and has more options than the typical chicken fingers and spaghetti.

I also love the fact that they have Grab-N-Go meals where you can either call ahead to order off the menu or walk in and grab the pre-made salads, soups and sandwiches.

That can take care of one stressor in your day.

Mom, Audra and I had a blast just eating, chatting and laughing in this upbeat, comfortable and quick restaurant.  I am happy to have our new Dunwoody addition which is next door to Rooms-To-Go and just down from Old Navy.
