Ramp closures for Transform 285/400 (Pay attention if you drive on 285 in the Perimeter Area)

The Georgia Department of Transporation wants drivers to be aware of upcoming closures of exit ramps from SR 400 northbound and southbound to I-285 westbound.

These ramp closures will have a big impact on traffic on and around Ashford Dunwoody Road at I-285.

The closures will allow crews to complete work necessary for opening the new I-285 westbound collector-distributor (CD) lane between Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Roswell Road on or before Monday, August 2, at 5 a.m. Details about the new CD lane are provided below.

Also below, please review the detour maps to gain a better understanding of the closures and their impact.

As indicated in the map above, SR 400 NB ramp to I-285 WB will be closed from Wednesday, July 28 at 9 p.m. until the completion of the new connector lane (projected to be Monday, August 2, at 5 a.m.).

A detour will be in place routing motorists to I-285 eastbound for return access to I-285 westbound from Ashford Dunwoody Road (Exit 29).

As indicated in the map above, SR 400 SB ramp to I-285 WB will be closed from Friday, July 30 at 9 p.m. until the traffic switch is complete on Saturday, July 31.

The detour for this ramp will also route motorists to I-285 eastbound for return access to I-285 westbound from Ashford Dunwoody Road (Exit 29).

*Dates and times are subject to change due to weather or other conditions

Weather permitting, Georgia Department of Transportation construction partners will open a new collector-distributor (CD) lane on I-285 westbound from Peachtree Dunwoody Road to Roswell Road on Monday, August 2 at 5 a.m. (or earlier). The new CD lane will also serve as the exit ramp from I-285 westbound to Roswell Road, which will require motorists to make their exit decision much sooner

Motorists on I-285 westbound desiring to exit at Roswell Road will need to merge on to the CD lane between Peachtree Dunwoody Road and SR 400. Motorists who miss this exit will have to exit at Riverside Drive (Exit 24) and get back on I-285 eastbound to access Roswell Road. There will be a slip ramp to get back on I-285 westbound from the CD lane.

Pacing may be required for crews to safely complete the traffic switch. Advanced signage will assist motorists navigating the roadway and ramp configuration. Motorists should also pay close attention to the new roadway configuration.

During the ramp closure/detour, Georgia DOT also advises motorists to:

·     Expect delays, leave early, and schedule enough time to drive safely

·     Rely on your preferred wayfinding app for alternate routes

·     Stay alert, minimize distractions, and practice safe driving habits

·     Pay close attention to the signage and pavement markers

·     Watch for workers and vehicles in the work zone
