On November 22nd, 2021, Misty Creek Community Church purchased the property known as 590 Mt Vernon Hwy from First Baptist Church of Sandy Springs. The property is the home of the much beloved stone chapel that sits as a beacon of hope on the corner of Mt Vernon Hwy and Glenridge Dr. The property went under contract on October 4th and closed on November 22nd. With God moving in their hearts, the small congregation of roughly 130 members, raised the entire purchase price in cash, in 50 days! It is an extraordinary story of the provision of a Mighty God!
Misty Creek Community Church began in April of 2019, when a group of people banded together to honor the name of Jesus. They had no plan to speak of, other than an absolute conviction to honor Jesus Christ as their Sovereign Lord and to fully stand on and teach the truth of the Holy Bible. They had no place to meet, no budget, and no pastor. But God saw their hearts and He honored their faith and sincere desire to love and serve Him. They began meeting in the home of Tom and Pamela Menefee in Misty Creek Farm subdivision. They had a Worship Pastor, Doug Allen and a praise band. Within weeks, God directed the steps of the Streett Family to them and by May they called Stephen Streett to be their Senior Pastor. What began as a simple, heartfelt desire to honor Jesus turned into a church. And they decided to name this church after the sacred place where they first encountered God with one another, Misty Creek Farm.
From the very beginning, God has met every single need. They quickly outgrew the Menefee’s home but in June 2019 the Lord, demonstrating His providence, led them to a new location in Sandy Springs that they rented on Sundays. A piece of land that has long been set apart by God for proclaiming the Gospel. In 1878, Providence Baptist Church began holding services at what would later become 590 Mt Vernon Hwy. In 1938 construction began on a new stone chapel, the same chapel that Misty Creek is now blessed to call their permanent home!
