Thanks to Sue Rodman of 365 Atlanta Family for “cluing me in” to Clue Town Books. I was reading her suggestions of what to do in Atlanta over the holiday week and discovered these great interactive books. As soon as I can get my family to go with me, I’m grabbing the Oakland Cemetery Clue Town Book and heading over there to experience this Clue Town concept. … Read More » “Books of the Week: Clue Town Books”
So far, my friend Pamela is batting 1000 with book recommendations, so I don’t know why it took me so long to pick this book up and read it. I bought it last spring when she told me about it, but didn’t start ’til earlier this week. I’m not finished yet but am fascinated by it. … Read More » “Book of the Week: The Defining Decade – Why your TWENTIES matter and how to make the most of them NOW!”
I told someone this week that I’ve been addicted to Andy Stanley podcasts lately. I literally listened to his 4 part series “The Bible for Grown-Ups” in one afternoon. Now I’ve moved on to reading his latest book: Irresistible: Reclaiming the New that Jesus Unleashed for the World. I realize this book won’t be interesting to all of my subscribers, but both the Bible for Grown-Ups podcast series and his Irresistible book are well worth mentioning for our readers who are interested in how the Bible, as we know it, came to be……..… Read More » “Book of the Week: Irresistible by Andy Stanley”
I just downloaded this 2013 book to my Kindle because it is my neighborhood book club’s book of the month for November. I read the following Amazon description and am very much looking forward to delving into this story!
“Mourning the passing of her mother, Sage Singer decides to attend a grief support group. She doesn’t expect to start an unlikely friendship with an elderly man also attending.… Read More » “Book of the week: The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult”
I’ve been in my car a lot lately driving my baby on college tours and visiting my big boy in college. I love my little car by the way. It has an awesomely long sunroof, it is small and easy to park, I can talk to text with it so easily, but my most favorite thing of all is that it works with Apple Car Play and reads books from my phone to me!… Read More » “Book of the Week: Something in the Water”
I was looking for a new book to read and keep hearing my friends say that they always go to Reese Witherspoon’s picks to help them choose. This is what Reese says about her last book of the month: “I can’t even express how much I love this book! My September pick is “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens.… Read More » “Book of the Week: Where the Crawdads Sing”
Many of my friends are taking this study right now at DUMC. I don’t have the time to attend on Wednesdays so decided to do the study on my own and am LOVING this book. I’ve been able to find several of the accompanying videos online also. So – if you’ve been looking for a good Bible study to do at your own pace, I’d highly recommend this one. … Read More » “Book of the Week: Seamless by Angie Smith”
One of my neighbors chose Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan for our Meadowlake book club. I’m not sure I would have ever picked it up otherwise. Truth be told…I started it last week and am now halfway through book TWO of the trilogy (China Rich Girlfriend). I’m addicted to these characters. They are absolutely hilarious and live in a world far different than I’ve ever imagined. … Read More » “Book of the Week: Crazy Rich Asians”
Come for donuts and coffee at DaVinci’s Donuts in Dunwoody on 9/22 from 10 AM – Noon and meet award-winning columnist Robin Conte, who will be signing copies of her book, The Best of the Nest: Robin’s Nest columns from the Reporter Newspapers. Copies of her book will also be available for purchase.
Amazon says this: “A sweeping, unforgettable novel from The New York Times best-selling author of Maine, about the hope, sacrifice, and love between two sisters and the secret that drives them apart.”
There are 132 miles between me and some of the people I love the most…..so I can be found cruising on Interstate 85 between Dunwoody and Lee County, Alabama quite frequently. To pass the time (and to keep myself awake) I often listen to books on Audible or to Andy Stanley podcasts. One day last week I drove down and back in the same day and forgot to download a new book onto Audible before leaving home. … Read More » “Book of the Week: House Rules by Jodi Picoult”
My friend, Pamela, told me about this book and I’ve been reading and re-reading it all summer. I used to think that once my kids were grown…and flown…that parenting would be finished. I was oh.so.wrong!
Throughout this book the author (Stormie O’Martian) helps you pray with the power of God’s Word over your adult children and their:
- career choices and sense of purpose
- marriages and other vital relationships
- parenting skills and leadership
- struggles, addictions, or emotional trials
- faith commitment and prayer life
It is comforting for me to believe in the power of God working through my prayers.… Read More » “Book of the Week: The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children”
Note from Audra: So I cheated. This isn’t really a “BOOK” of the week. However, it is a publication that I “READ” almost every day and the topic is so timely that I knew I must share. I’m taking my oldest back for his second year at Auburn tomorrow…our UGA friends are mostly all back in Athens and I have so many friends who are dropping their FIRST kids off at college this year. … Read More » “Book of the Week: Grown & Flown”
