Travel Tuesday with Danielle ~ Europe Continues to Open to American Travelers

by Danielle Garrett of PlanIt Travel Designs for The Aha! Connection

Fifteen months after Europe closed its borders to the U.S.,the European Union (EU) announced last week a recommendation to begin allowing entry to U.S. citizens. However, it is up to each country to determine their specific rules for entry into their country.  Besides Croatia, Greece, France, Spain, Iceland and Italy who are already open, below are some of the latest country updates.

VERY IMPORTANT: Read entry requirements for each country carefully, as they vary.  For example, some countries like Spain are only open to vaccinated travelers and Italy currently requires Covid tested flights only to avoid quarantine.  Most offer a negative Covid test option, but it is important to follow each country’s’ rules!!

GERMANY: just opened on June 20.

SWITZERLAND: plans to open on June 28.

Switzerland

PORTUGAL: opened on June 15 BUT is reviewing their entry requirements every 2 weeks (so current rules expire on June 27).  **I’d hold off on Portugal

IRELAND: plans to open on July 19.

Ireland

UK: just announced a 4-week delay of re-opening (until at least July 19).  No firm date set, as they are currently struggling with the Delta variant.  Click here for more information.

Please remember to travel responsibly, wear your mask and do not travel unnecessarily if you are elderly or immune-compromised! And remember to check your destination’s travel restrictions/requirements before and during planning, as well as double-checking before departure!
