Book of the Week: Crazy Rich Asians

One of my neighbors chose Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan for our Meadowlake book club.  I’m not sure I would have ever picked it up otherwise.   Truth be told…I started it last week and am now halfway through book TWO of the trilogy (China Rich Girlfriend).   I’m addicted to these characters.  They are absolutely hilarious and live in a world far different than I’ve ever imagined.

I started book 1 on a drive back from visiting my son in Auburn last Wednesday.  Obviously I was LISTENING via Audible and not reading while driving!  Typically I’ll switch back and forth between Audible and my Kindle when in the throes of a good book.   However, I must admit that for this series, I keep finding excuses listen instead of read.   The narrator makes it so much better with her Asian accent and voice inflections.

Also, after listening for the first two hours of book 1, I jumped on the internet to find out what the movie characters look like.   I want to see the movie when I’m finished with the trilogy and felt like it would be a good idea to keep the images of the actors in sync with the characters in my brain.  I watched the movie trailer, and I’m afraid that I can already tell that they changed the story-line a bit.   However, if the actors can bring these colorful characters to life, I feel sure I’ll laugh and cry my way through this entire movie.

Funny, I’ve never even been halfway interested in traveling to Asia.   Today I’ve added Singapore and Hong Kong to my bucket list.
