Brookhaven Bucks Baseball Season Off to Hot Start

The Sunbelt Baseball League (SBL) season is well underway and the Brookhaven Bucks (5-3) are currently tied for first place with the Norcross Astros in the 6-team league.

The Bucks offense has been the best in the collegiate summer wooden-bat league, leading the SBL in several offensive categories, including hits, doubles and batting average. Zach Williams, a sophomore from College of Charleston, leads the team with a .400 average. Connor Stutts (

The Bucks have also seen big offensive contributions from Connor Stutts (Junior from The University of Alabama), Austin Zeitler (Sophomore from Chattahoochee Valley Community College), Brenton Sanders (Sophomore from Georgia Tech) and Brett Olson (Senior from Auburn University).

Bucks pitchers have been leading the league as well. The pitching staff, led by Jordan Ward (Sophomore from Jacksonville University), Austin Hunter (Freshman from Belmont Abbey College) and Harrison Fant (Sophomore from Central Alabama Community College), has the best ERA in the SBL.

“We’ve really started the season well. I’m impressed with how the guys have come together so quickly,” said Bucks Head Coach Corey Patterson.

The roster includes players from more than 20 different colleges from around the southeast. Most of the players come from NCAA Division I schools.

The Bucks have two home games coming up – Friday, June 22nd at 7 p.m. vs. the Gwinnett Tides (Austin Zeitler baseball card giveaway) and Saturday, June 23rd at 5 p.m. vs. the Marietta Patriots (Bucks team photo giveaway). Home games are played at Oglethorpe University and are very family friendly. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Players are available for autographs and pictures 30 minutes before every home game. The Bucks concession stand has been voted best concession stand in the SBL.

The 30-game regular season runs through July 26th, with playoffs for the top four teams running through August 3rd.
