Dunwoody celebrates summer with a splash

Dunwoody Parks & Recreation will host free outdoor concerts and movies, plus the summer opening of the splash pad at Two Bridges Park.

 

Dunwoody, GA – May 13, 2024 – Dunwoody Parks and Recreation will celebrate the season with the Kickoff to Summer at Two Bridges Park on Friday, May 24 at 11 a.m. This event will mark the 2024 opening of the park’s popular splash pad, which debuted last year. Visitors will enjoy free King of Pops and giveaways. Two Bridges is located in the Perimeter at 50 Perimeter Center East.

“After a very successful first season, we’re excited to start running the splash pad again this year. It’s just so much fun for families,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “We also look forward to adding new shade structures at Two Bridges Park to make the park even more inviting.”

The summer calendar of events in Dunwoody Parks includes free outdoor concerts and movies. Plus, Dunwoody Food Truck Thursdays, organized by the Dunwoody Homeowners Association, will move to a monthly schedule with more food trucks and more variety. Here are some summer highlights:

  • May 16: Food Truck Thursdays Season Opener, Brook Run Park, 5 p.m.
  • May 18: Kids to Parks Day, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Brook Run Park front field. A national day of outdoor play as recognized by the National Park Trust. Dunwoody’s celebration will feature balloon artists, bubbles, and face painters
  • May 24: Kickoff to Summer at Two Bridges Park, 11 a.m.
  • June 7: Pics in the Park, Pernoshal Park, 9 p.m. (also July 5, August 2)
  • June 8: Groovin’ on the Green Series Opener, 6 p.m. The series will feature nine acts performing at the Brook Run Park   Amphitheater on the second Saturday of the month from June through October.  All concerts begin at 6 p.m. and are family-friendly. Guests are encouraged to  walk or ride bikes to the concerts since the Amphitheater is located along the  Dunwoody Trailway. Bring picnics or pick up dinner from a featured food truck. Dogs (on a leash!) are welcome. Additional concert dates: July 13, Aug. 10,  Sept. 14, Oct. 12

“Summer is our busy time and our favorite time to showcase Dunwoody parks,” said Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Director Rachel Waldron. “We’ve developed a loyal following with our Groovin’ on the Green series. These community concerts provide a great opportunity to gather with friends and family to enjoy music in a beautiful, outdoor setting.”

In addition to community events, Dunwoody Parks and Recreation will offer new programs this summer. They include the following: free Equalizer Health classes, free self-defense classes, Dwarf Goat Pilates and Meditation, and Tree Wellness Walks.
