Dunwoody seeks input on master plans for parks

Residents are invited to share their vision for two Dunwoody park properties during Food Truck Thursday on September 9.

Dunwoody, GA – September 8, 2021 – Dunwoody residents are encouraged to add park planning to the menu during Food Truck Thursday at Brook Run Park on September 9. Under the blue City of Dunwoody tent, consultants working with Dunwoody Parks and Recreation will visit with residents and seek input on two new park properties. Public input will be critical to developing master plans for parks at the former Austin school site on Roberts Drive and the recently-purchased property on Vermack Road.

“We look forward to learning more about residents’ ideas and interests as we build on the great park assets we already have to enjoy,” said Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Director Brent Walker. “Our consultants will take what we learned from an initial survey about the Austin site last year and build on that to shape the vision for these parks.”

The survey provided at Food Truck Thursday will also be available online through September 17. Additional public engagement opportunities will be announced after initial survey results are compiled.

The Vermack property is 9.29 acres and includes an open field and wooded area. The former Austin school site is 10 acres and also provides a mix of open space and woods. Two existing playgrounds on the Austin site have been refurbished and will be open to the public soon.

“There is so much potential with these properties,” Walker added. “We’ll take our lead from residents as we work to find the best and most appropriate uses for both.”
