Dunwoody, GA – June 26, 2023– Dunwoody Public Works proposes pedestrian and bicycle improvements on Happy Hollow Road between Peeler Road and the city limit at Dunwoody Club Drive. The improvements include adding a six-foot sidewalk on the west side of Happy Hollow and four-foot bicycle lanes in both directions.
“Pedestrian safety and connectivity have always been priorities for the City of Dunwoody. Happy Hollow Road was actually one of the first streets that we built a sidewalk on,” said Dunwoody Public Works Director Michael Smith. “Having now completed more than 14 miles of sidewalk around the Dunwoody, we are looking to make Happy Hollow Road a complete street by filling in the sidewalk gaps on the other side.”
The proposed sidewalk would be separated from vehicles with a buffer ranging from two-to-four feet wide. For more than half of the project length, the existing pavement is wide enough to accommodate four-foot bike lanes by narrowing the travel lanes to 10 feet. In areas where the existing pavement is not wide enough for the bike lanes, the pavement would be widened on the west side of the road with some minor adjustments of the curb on the east side.
The project is currently funded only for design. Construction funding has not been allocated in the five-year capital budget that extends through 2027. When funding is available, the construction would likely be broken up into two or more phases.
