Dunwoody Shines at Individual Fencing Championship

Congratulations to freshman Josie James on earning a third place bronze medal alongside Team Captain Sara Gelber who earned the 8th place medal at the Georgia High School Fencing League Individual Championship. The event took place at Alpharetta High School on January 25th. Additional points were earned for the women’s team by: Women’s Team Captain, Megan Murphy (13th place); Honoka Miura (17th place), and Samantha Kasowski.
A record number of Dunwoody fencers qualified and participated in the championship. The 7 DHS women competitors were: Josie James, Sara Gelber, Megan Murphy, Honoka Miura, Samantha Kasowski, Sydney Hilgert, and Ella Rogers. Assistant Captains, Hannah Soderberg and Taylor Taliaferro, also qualified for the women’s team. For the men’s team, sophomore, Sam James finished 11th out of 81 men. The 7 men competing from DHS were: Sam James, Assistant Captain, Jonathan Kopel; Jeffrey Berkowitz, Logan Norris, Men’s Team Captain, Blake Donovan; Pratik Patel, and Gareth Payne.
Men qualifying for the GHSFL Team Championship are: Sam James, Jonathan Kopel, Jeffrey Berkowitz, and Logan Norris with alternate, Blake Donovan. For the women’s team, qualifiers include: Josie James, Sara Gelber, Megan Murphy, and Honoka Miura with alternate, Samantha Kasowski
