Dunwoody to host Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration

Dunwoody will kick off AAPI Heritage Month with cultural performances and demonstrations at the Lawn at Ashford Lane on April 30.

 

Dunwoody, GA – April 18, 2023 – The City of Dunwoody Economic Development Department will host a celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage on Sunday, April 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Lawn at Ashford Lane (1230 Ashford Crossing). This free event is open to all and will showcase cultural performances and art.

“We’re adding something new this year by including interactive performances that will involve audience members and provide some explanation and instruction,” said Dunwoody Business and Cultural Development Manager Rosemary Watts. “This is a great way to celebrate Dunwoody’s diversity. We’re excited to bring this celebration to the outdoor lawn at Ashford Lane, which is a beautiful new community gathering place.”

The event will feature performances by the following groups: Atlanta Chinese Dance Company, FASCA Yo-Yo and Lion Dance, Korean Dance Academy, Shaolin Institute, Jathiswara School of Dance and Music, Vietnamese TaiChi 132 Forms, Laotian Dance – LAS Dancers, Joyful Dancers, Natyam Arts Academy, and Phoenix Sisters and Dragon Brothers Drum Team. The celebration will also include a demonstration of Japanese floral arrangements. In addition, the following countries will be represented with information tables: Thailand, China, Laos, Japan, Taiwan, and India. WSB-TV’s Sophia Choi will serve as emcee for the event. In case of inclement weather, the celebration will move to an indoor space at Ashford Lane.
