Dunwoody United Methodist Church Announces New Senior Pastor

From an email sent to DUMC members:

Dear DUMC Members & Friends,

If you were in church this morning, you heard the great news about the appointment by the Bishop and her cabinet of Dr. Phil Schroeder as our new Senior Pastor. Phil will begin his leadership of DUMC in July.

For the past 7 years, Phil has been the Director of the Center for Congregational Excellence for the North Georgia Conference. He oversaw a large staff committed to training and resources for local churches and led the development of new churches and new ministries.  Previously, he served as Senior Pastor of Grayson United Methodist Church for 6 years. While he was there, Grayson tripled its membership and worship attendance.  He also served appointments at Peachtree Road UMC, Gainesville First UMC, Stark UMC and Lowell UMC. Phil actually has a strong connection to DUMC, in that Dr. Wiley Stephens presented him to the Board of Ordained Ministry during Phil’s ordination ceremony.

Phil graduated from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in marketing and healthcare administration. He moved to Atlanta to attend Emory University and received his MBA and M.Div. from the dual degree program in business and theology. Phil has written or co-authored 8 books, including his most recent book, Launching Leaders, which came out last year. He’s also taught as adjunct faculty at the Candler School of Theology and at Wesley Seminary in the Doctor of Ministry Program.

Phil and his wife, Elizabeth, have been married for over 30 years and have 3 adult children.  They plan to move to the Dunwoody community as they start their ministry here.

Although our new Senior Pastor has been announced, we don’t yet know about appointments for Associate Pastors. Close to Palm Sunday, we expect to learn whether Josh Amerson and Kathy Brockman are reappointed to Dunwoody or if they receive new appointments, meaning we would receive new Associate clergy members. We will let you know as soon as those appointments are made.  If you’re wondering about David Melton and Calissa Dauterman, they serve as deacons and are not under the appointment system.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support for our clergy at Dunwoody and for the laity leadership serving on your Staff-Parish Relations Committee. Please join me in adding Phil and Elizabeth to our prayers as they prepare to join us here at DUMC.

Regards,

Sean Taylor
Chairman, DUMC Staff-Parish Relations Committee
