Fire In The Fourth Festival

The Old Fourth Ward Business Association announced partnerships with the Atlanta Fire Foundation and the Imperial OPA Circus for the inaugural Fire in the 4th Festival taking place on Edgewood and Auburn Avenues, between Boulevard and Jackson in the historic Old Fourth Ward on Saturday May 2, 2015 from 2 to 10 p.m. A non-profit organization established for the purpose of providing Atlanta’s firefighters with state-of-the-art equipment, education and training, the partnership with the Atlanta Fire Foundation was a natural fit for the festival that will pay homage to the historic Great Atlanta Fire of 1917 that devastated the Old Fourth Ward. Additionally, The Atlanta Fire Foundation will bring Metro Atlanta fire rescue musters teams to compete and host fire safety awareness activities. Keeping the entertaining going, the popular Imperial OPA Circus will be serving as the festival’s curator of street performances and fire-themed gallery. Established in 2010, the OPA continues to be at the forefront of avant-garde circus performing in Atlanta and beyond.

“We designed Fire in the 4th to resemble the flavor of our neighborhood,” says O4WBA Event Chairman and Noni’s Bar & Deli owner Matt Ruppert. “Edgewood will literally be on fire with sculptures and circus-like performances, music, and even a Fire-rama, depicting the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917.”

As a first step in properly branding Fire in the Fourth, the O4WBA held a logo design contest this past summer, which garnered over 100 submissions from the local art community. After an extensive deliberation, Scott Lockhart’s design was chosen as the festival official brand. Originally from Australia, Lockhart has been a fixture of the Old Fourth Ward since 2009, having helped to establish some of the resurgence of Edgewood Avenue nightlife parties through Nonsense ATL. The logo will be used on all official merchandising, signage and festival promotion.

With the purpose of building awareness for the businesses of the Old Fourth Ward, as well as to raise funds for community initiatives, Fire in the 4th is looking to be an annual staple for one of Atlanta’s most recognized neighborhoods. Paying homage to the historic Great Atlanta Fire of 1917 which devastated the Old Fourth Ward, the festival will celebrate its heritage through fire installations and performances, live music, and more.
