Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta and The Wellness Institute are hosting a virtual live interview with Gary Gulman, star of the HBO Comedy Special, The Great Depresh, about his personal struggle with depression and anxiety. The free event is open to the community and will be held May 7, 2021 from noon to 1 p.m. EDT.
Dr. Jill Harkavy-Friedman of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will moderate the conversation.
This event kicks off the new JF&CS Mental Health Series for the Atlanta community, and is produced by The Wellness Institute, a division of the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI).
JF&CS has expanded clinical services for mental health throughout the COVID-19 crisis, including services for older adults through JF&CS’s Aviv Older Adult Services, via scheduled telehealth phone sessions and by video conference. JF&CS offers counseling for all ages and accepts most forms of insurance.
“The pandemic has exponentially increased the demand for our mental health services,” says Terri Bonoff, CEO, JF&CS Atlanta, noting that May is Mental Health Awareness month. “We’re grateful to Gary for sharing his personal experience and are proud to stand alongside him to shatter the stigma around mental illness, depression and anxiety.”
With over 25 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. His most recent standup special for HBO, “The Great Depresh,” is a universally acclaimed, tour de force look at mental illness, equal parts hilarious and inspiring. A Boston native, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor. He is currently writing a memoir for Flatiron Books, tentatively titled “K Through 12.”
