Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School is gearing up for its second annual STEMsational Saturday on Nov. 4. The STEM — science, technology, engineering and math — event invites children ages 3-6 and their parents to spend the morning programming robots, building sail cars, and launching straw rockets, among other exciting activities.
HIES STEAM Director Daniel Forrester and student members of the HIES Science National Honor Society will host the event.
“This event is a great opportunity to introduce children to robotics and engineering,” Mr. Forrester said.
“While STEM activities are typically for students of older ages, it is never too early to start teaching younger children some of the hands-on basics.”
Participants will earn stamps of completion for activities in their engineering booklets provided by the school. Prizes will be awarded, and each child will receive his or her own HIES engineering certificate.
Beth-Sarah Wright, HIES director of enrollment management, says STEM skills can be used to create powerful performances, beautiful artwork and more polished projects — not to mention foster critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving.
STEMsational Saturday is free and open to the public. It begins at 9 a.m. at the Alan A. Lewis Primary School, 805 Mount Vernon Highway NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.
