More than 23 percent of children in Georgia, South Carolina and East Alabama live in food insecure households. This is well above the national average of 17.9 percent of children who don’t have regular access to food outside of school-provided lunches.
Kroger is helping address the issue of food insecurity affecting school-aged children in elementary, middle and high school over weekends and school breaks through its “Feeding the Gap” campaign, which is now in its second year.
“Kroger’s Feeding the Gap campaign directly supports our Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative, which has a goal of ending hunger in the places we call home by 2025,” says Felix Turner, manager of corporate affairs for Kroger’s Atlanta Division, which includes Georgia, Eastern Alabama and South Carolina. “More than 750,000 children in our division have been hungry and without access to the food they need. Kroger is uniquely positioned to make a positive impact for these children through our Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative.”
From now, through April 28, Kroger customers can purchase $1 icons or donate a specific amount at checkout to help the Atlanta Division reach its goal of raising $150,000. All donations will support local Feeding America food banks and the work they do to ensure children don’t go hungry when school is not in session.
