Lekotek is a local non-profit that helps all children succeed and learn through play. Lekotek facilitates the inclusion of children with disabilities into their families and communities by being a “play library” loaning adapted toys, educational materials, computers and iPads. At Lekotek, toy, computer and iPad adaptations equalize the playing field making it possible for every child to experience the joy of play while learning along the way. Facilitating opportunities for successful play helps children develop confidence and self-esteem. As Lekotek kids graduate and go on to college and workplaces, the success they find at Lekotek creates the self- assurance they need in their young adult lives.
The Lekotek Run is gearing up for its 28th year, and as with most things in 2020, it looks a little differently. Lekotek’s annual run/walk will be held virtually from Nov. 1 to Nov. 8. A virtual run/walk is like a traditional run/walk—friendly competition, t shirts, finish line selfies—only you pick the route. And what time to wake up.
Runners and walkers will have the opportunity to participate in a 1-mile, 5K or 10K run/walk. All registrants receive a T-shirt and will be entered to win $10 Phidippides gift cards or $10 Starbucks gift cards. Winners will be selected at random. The family-friendly event will raise funds to support Lekotek’s mission to help and empower children with a wide range of special needs through the power of play. Lekotek served more than 700 children and families last year.

With adapted toys, computer equipment, and educational materials, Lekotek helps all children learn through play. Even during the pandemic, they have continued to meet the needs of their families through virtual play sessions and other resources.
