Are Lemons Bad For Cats and Dogs?

The Dunwoody Preservation Trust Lemonade Days festival is quickly approaching, which means Spring is in the air! There will be plenty of activities, festivities, and eateries at the festival, which takes place April 19th-23rd at Brook Run Park in beautiful Dunwoody, GA. Also, be sure to stop by our tent and receive a free doggy treat!

While there will be plenty of lemons at the Lemonade Days Festival, you should not bring home this sour yellow fruit to your furry friend. In fact, it is a bad idea to give your pooch any kind of citrus fruit. You’ve probably seen “pets react to lemons” videos all over the internet, and while they may be humorous, there are real dangers for the animals eating the fruit. Lemons and other citrus fruits are indeed toxic to dogs and cats. If your cat or dog eats any type of citrus, be sure to contact your vet immediately. Citrus can cause your dog or cat to throw up, have diarrhea, or have increased sensitivity to light. It is important to consider this information as you partake in Lemonade Days festivities. Remember, don’t feed any lemons to your pets.

We hope you enjoy the festival!
