Letter from the Dunwoody Preservation Trust

Presidents’ Message

A copy of the DPT first eNewsletter:

This is just one of the many ways we are striving to communicate better with our donor & sponsor community.

As many of you know, the Dunwoody Preservation Trust has been working to find a way to preserve the Donaldson Bannister Home – a City of Dunwoody property. The study that we commissioned by Lord, Aeck, Sargent has shown us what would become a “crown jewel” for our city and the surrounding area.  The new Donaldson-Bannister Home & Gardens would be a busy, beautiful oasis of activity and education in suburban Atlanta; it would become part of the fabric of Dunwoody as generations visit for educational events, weddings, or meetings.  We see this vision so clearly, thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and the talented professionals at Lord, Aeck & Sargent, but comes at a cost, with a price tag between $4 and $5 million.

We are talking with people with expert knowledge of grants and fund raising, in hopes that some of these funds can be found in foundations, corporations, governments and in the generosity of large donors who share our vision for Dunwoody.  We would like your continued support as well.

DPT has continued its efforts to restore the New Hope Cemetery and have had several cleanup days and more are planned for the fall. We have also been working on the documentation and preservation of other cemeteries that are also in our sight.

In 2014, we have launched of our History Alive! Learning Series with three great events so far. Check out our next great speakers and musical events that have been chosen by our Education and Outreach group to celebrate our history.

Light Up Dunwoody and Lemonade Days – will be joined by a new favorite – Apple Cider Days –this fall at Perimeter Mall. In 2013, we simply called it the Fall Festival; now we have re-branded it and will be bringing more activities to this year’s event.

All of these efforts are supported by the engagement of our dedicated volunteers, donors and sponsors.   Check out our website to see what we have coming up, to see how you can participate by volunteering or simply to make a donation at Dunwoody Preservation Trust.  Volunteer at one of our events, see how  you can assist with researching one of our families, homes or cemeteries, or participate in some of or clean-up days.

We to invite you to join us around Dunwoody in what promises to be our busiest year yet.

Tom & Monica McGurk, Co-Presidents
