My neighborhood was one of several selected to participate in the DeKalb County Sanitation department Pilot Program. The goal is to save money by only collecting one day per week. On this day, the sanitation department will pick up recycling, trash, and yard debris all at once. Every home in my neighborhood was provided with a new green garbage can that is slightly bigger than my existing can. Our first date of collection for this pilot program will be next Tuesday 4/29. Our family has been recycling for many years and I learned a long time ago that when you recycle it really cuts down on the volume of “trash” for your trash can. We hardly ever fill up our trash can so I’m confident that we’ll have plenty of room in our new can to handle a week’s worth of trash! I hope the program is a success and will save the county money!
