Parent Councils United: Update on DeKalb County School District Charter System Petition

Source: Dunwoody School Daze

Update regarding charter system petition discussion at today’s BOE work session:

As we know, DCSD doesn’t have functional School Councils at all schools, even though it is required by law. Because of the issues of equity and capacity related to school-level parental participation on potential Local School Governance Teams (as outlined in the petition), Dr. Green asked the Board of Education to allow him time to further research the flexibility options. He would like to consider all options (including IE squared and system of charter clusters) before deciding whether or not to recommend the charter system petition. BOE members agreed to grant Dr. Green more time. We offer our thanks and support to Dr. Green as he works to find the best solution for all of DeKalb’s students.
