4 Quick Movie Reviews: Molly’s Game, Star Wars, Wonder, Jumanji

I’ve seen 4 movies over the holiday break with various members of my family.  I just wanted to quickly report on all four in case you are looking for warm indoor activities this weekend!

Molly’s Game

Rated R – Stars Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba.  In theaters January 5th.

My husband and I saw this a few weeks ago at a screening.  Too bad that you can’t see it until 1/5.  We loved it.  He still keeps telling people they MUST go see this movie.  It is based on a true story, is fast paced, full of action, and has a good ending.  Not for little kids due to the drugs and some violence.  Grab your spouse and head for a movie date when this one comes out on 1/5.

Star Wars The Last Jedi

Rated PG-13 – Stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill

My whole family went to see this at Studio Movie Grill earlier this week.  We had low expectations due to feedback from my college boy’s friends and my nephew.  However, I insisted that we give it a try due to our love of the series and the fact that we needed to judge this for ourselves.  Guess what?  I received a HUGE “THANK YOU MOM” after the movie.  The boys loved it.  The hubby loved it.  I will concede that it wasn’t my favorite Star Wars flick.   It seemed to have more wisecrack humor than the others, and went back to the hokey sci fi effects from the first trilogy but overall….I love movies that I can enjoy with my boys for family night and this one fit the bill well.

Wonder

Rated PG – Stars Jacob Tremblay, Owen Wilson, Izabela Vidovic , Julia Roberts

I personally believe that every parent should take their kids to see this movie.  If you can’t see it on the bigscreen then be sure to make a note to rent it or watch on Netflix one day.  It is based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER (that I LOVED) and tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with ugly facial deformities who enters fifth grade in a mainstream school after being home schooled for his whole life.  You will laugh, you will cry,  you will cheer, and you will want to jump into the movie to give Auggie a big hug!   My 16  year old saw this movie with me and loved it just as much as I did!

Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle

Rated PG-13- Stars – Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black

My husband and I took my boys and three of their cousins to this movie on Christmas Day.  I have never laughed so hard in a movie in my entire life. I wasn’t sure what to expect but this was the clear favorite choice for the kiddos ranging in age from 16-21.  The verdict….we all LOVED it.  Jack Black was the unanimous winner for the “stole the show” award.  OMG..I’m not sure if the word HILARIOUS adequately describes just how funny he is in the role of Bethany.   I’m literally chuckling to myself as I type this review.
