Today is “UGA Football Friday”

Don’t plan any late-day appointments at state or local government offices in Atlanta on Monday, Jan. 8.

Gov. Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Fulton County government officials today announced early closures for state and local government in metro Atlanta on Monday.

That’s the day of the College Football Playoff National Championship between Alabama and Georgia, which President Trump plans to attend. Some weather forecasts are also indicating the possibility of freezing rain.

The City of Atlanta will close at 2:30 p.m. Monday. Fulton County and state government will close at 3 p.m. Government agencies are also encouraged to allow employees to telecommute if possible, and they and visitors are encouraged to use MARTA to travel.

“State and local governments will continue monitoring weather and will send additional guidance to employees as necessary,” the announcement said.

Gov. Nathan Deal also signed a proclamation declaring today, Jan. 5, as ‘UGA Football Friday’ and is encouraging fans to wear red and black in support of Georgia.
