Tornado Relief effort for Ringgold, GA – Friday, May 6

This Friday, May 6, we’re planning a relief trip for Ringgold, GA.  We’ve found a local church which is a distribution center where we’d like to set up a food station for volunteers and home-owners who are working in the area.  The church is Oakwood Baptist Church.   Ringgold is less than 2 hours away from Atlanta and as you know many folks were killed in the area.

What we want to do is haul some grills or a big grill up on Friday morning and cook hamburgers, hot-dogs, chicken, etc to feed folks during the day on Friday.  There are FOUR ways you can help:

  1. VOLUNTEER TO HELP ON FRIDAY
  2. DONATE FOOD AND SUPPLIES
  3. DONATE WATER AND DIAPERS
  4. DONATE MONEY

VOLUNTEERS! – Come for the whole day or part of the day.  Come to cook, serve, help setup, help cleanup or just to hug the folks who come by.

If you have a truck or trailer and can haul stuff up or back, let me know.

FOOD AND SUPPLIES

Grills and cooking utensils – we’re working on one large grill rather than lots of small grills.

Frozen Hamburgers, Hot-Dogs and Chicken Breasts – Costco is best for this stuff

Seasoning and marinades – no need for the food to be plain.

Buns and condiments – fresh cheese, lettuce, onions and tomatoes will be especially appreciated

Large Coolers

Ice for Coolers

Drinks of all kinds, especially bottled water

A couple of those popup shade tents – usually 10×10 or so and they stand on their own.  If you have concrete anchors for these that is helpful

A few folding tables with chairs

Paper goods and utensils for eating

Charcoal

VOLUNTEERS! – Come for the whole day or part of the day.  Come to cook, serve, help setup, help cleanup or just to hug the folks who come by.  If you have a truck or trailer and can haul stuff up or back, let me know.

As of now entry to the area is still restricted but by Thursday they plan to allow outsiders in.  We can get you in if they don’t lift that restriction by Friday but we’ll have to know who you are, when you’re coming, etc.  A lot of help will be need for setup and clean up.

In addition to being a distribution center for supplies in Ringgold, many people from NE Alabama are coming there as well instead of having to drive all the way to Huntsville to the official Red Cross center.

DRINKING WATER and DIAPERS:  Right now they don’t have drinking water in Ringgold so if you’d like to donate water and diapers for a delivery being made to Oakwood on Wednesday let me know and I’ll forward you the email about that.

MONEY: If you’d like to donate $$ to the relief effort at the church you can use this web page:  http://www.oakwoodbc.org/pages/page.asp?page_id=150878

IF YOU CAN GO ON FRIDAY, please let me know ASAP.

Thanks and PLEASE SEND THIS EMAIL to anyone you think would be interested.  Many hands make light work and we have all been very blessed.

Thanks

Ralph
