Wesleyan Students Awarded National Medals in Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Wesleyan School is pleased to announce that sophomore Kayla Kim and senior Anna Turner have been awarded National Medals in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Kayla was awarded two medals, a Gold Medal for her drawing entitled “Imprisoned Truth” and a Silver Medal for her painting entitled “Worthless Lives.” Anna won a Silver Medal for her photograph entitled “Hidden Figure.” Both won regional gold keys and advanced to the National level. Gold Medals represent “the most outstanding works in the nation,” and Silver Medals are, “works demonstrating high honors on the national level,” according to the program’s website.

Each year, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers partners with more than 100 visual arts and literary arts organizations across the country to bring the Scholastic Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up) apply in 29 categories of art and writing. This year, students submitted nearly 340,000 works of art and writing to the Scholastic Awards. National medalists make up only .8 % of entries.

Kayla and Anna will be recognized at the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.
