Audra’s 2016 Halloween Synopsis and Trick or Treat Graph since 1984

halloween-2016My husband and I bought our home from the original owners in 2002.   The Orgerons loved Halloween.   Interestingly enough, they kept a tally of the number of trick-or-treaters that came to the front door each Halloween since 1984.   We kept up the tradition of counting as accurately as we can with the help of all our Halloween guests each year! We missed 2014 because we were in Oxford, Mississippi for college football but we’ve been very strict counters except for that year!  We are down this year.  I’m sad.  I want to blame my hubby this year for playing scary music that scares the little kids but I don’t think I can.  Can I blame Monday?  Can I blame a school night?  More likely I can say that our neighborhood kids are 12+ and many aren’t dressing up and trick or treating….we had an even 100 and instead of being sad that the numbers are down I’m gonna tell you about the highlights!

  • An absolutely beautiful Disney Princess Belle CURTSIED when she said thank you.  I was aghast with adoration.  I told her that she was amazing and she told me she curtsies for every piece of candy.  Oh my….I love this girl.
  • My husband went a little overboard with his Apple Music Halloween playlist.  He was broadcasting from our little but loud Bose speaker out the window next to the front door.  At some point I told him please, less Jason and more Ghost Busters.  One little three year old girl wouldn’t even walk up the steps.  I walked down go give her candy and she said “What’s up that creepy music?”   Kirk switched things up for me after that.
  • 10% of the kids were scared of my dog.   This is up from 1%.  My dog happens to be the sweetest dog in the universe and he’s 10.5 years old. Why are so many kids suddenly afraid of dogs?  Dogs are 99% angel….and want to love you to pieces.
  • Ghostbusters.   I’m from the original Ghostbusting era so when 3 little boys  (maybe 5 or 6 year olds) came to my door in perfect Ghostbusting attire complete with backpacks I JUST.ABOUT.DIED.  I exclaimed loudly…”y’all are the cutest Ghostbusters I’ve ever seen” and guess what my Apple addicted husband with the Bose remote control did?  He switched to the Ghostbusters theme song.  The tiny Ghostbusters went WILD.  “They are playing our song” they exclaimed as they literally danced down my driveway…..Halloween is AWESOME.

Were you up or down on your trick or treat numbers?  Please leave a comment and mention where you live!

  1. Live in Meadowlake at Dunwoody and had 0 -ZERO – trick or treaters. Had lights on until 8 pm. Unbelievable.

  2. Briers North saw about 4,000-ish last night. Numbers are down due to Halloween being on a Monday (read: major school night). The extreme mega crowds always come out on the weekend Halloweens and approach the 5-figure range. Thanks to everyone who visited, who donated to defray the police costs (all donations go to hard costs like police and safety equipment: residents provide their own sets, decorations and candy on their own dime) and to Crossroads Baptist for making their parking lot available for parking. See you next year!

  3. We only had 2 trick-or-treaters 🙁 We live in Trailridge and everyone was down on Winding Branch Circle. I think next year, we will have to set up a table somewhere on the circle– or help out friends who passed out 5 bags of Costco candy!

  4. Last year I ran out of candy at 8:30 – this year I still have half of what I bought! Many fewer trick or treaters this year. The little Belle princess curtsied when she thanked me for her candy – ADORABLE!

  5. I didn’t count in the past, but we seemed have the same amount of trick-or-treaters – about 105. Riverglenn Circle in Dunwoody North.

  6. We are UP this year! With a grand total of ONE trick-or-treater, our 8 year record of zero has been smashed! 🙂

  7. This was our first Halloween in our house on Coronation Drive. We really enjoyed the neighborhood festive Ites before the trick-or-treating began. I admit I also counting trick-or-treaters but I did this by preparing a little bags of candy so that I could know how many kids came by the number of bags I had left over. My count was 45 trick-or-treaters.

  8. We only had one had one group of 4 cute little princesses and fairies this year. They were screaming scared of my son’s Canine Assistant black lab who is 13 1/2 years old and very kind and calm. Go figure. I also find it strange that kids are so afraid of dogs these days. Go figure. Someone told me that the bad clowns around this year deterred the kids from trick or treating and opted for private parties or mall or school Halloween events. Brooke Farm in Dunwoody.
